As per new Directive from the Supreme Court, sale of liquor will not be permitted within the 500 meter area across the highways through out the country. This will be in affect from today i.e April 1, 2017.

Supreme Court directed strictly on Friday that there will be no liquor shop on the Highways. Court also said liquor shops should be situated not less than 500 meters from the outer edge of the national or state highway or of the service lane of the Highways.

As per the new rule, the permits for these existing liquor shops on the Highways will not be renewed.

Nearly more than 50 pubs, restaurants, beer bars and hotels serving liquor, located within 500 meters of Highways in Delhi , will not be able to serve alcohol as per the new rule.

Similarly many clubs in Metro cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Chandigarh has to stop serving liquor.

Some Major restaurants and hotels chains located in Aerocity near the IGI Airport will be affected by the new ruling.

On the other hand, hilly states like Sikkim, Meghalaya and Himachal Pradesh and areas having population up to 20,000 have been exempted from selling liquor near the highways.
